A chain can turn around
Play an uncovered card one rank above or below the current target, ignoring suit. You may change rank direction after any play, including across king and ace. Each played card becomes the next target. The 36-card stock supplies new targets when needed, with no redeal.
Keep the next stretch of the arc accessible
A longer chain is not always the best choice if it ends without opening anything new. Compare the covered cards that two legal moves would release. A short sequence into another part of the arc may create more choices for your next target. Clearing the whole layout wins even with stock remaining.
